Junior Shows
It is once again that time of year to start
planning to attend the Junior Shows across Ontario.
Please see below for dates, locations, and entry forms
for the four different Junior Shows.

Unfortunately due to
lack of interest, the Youth Seminar was cancelled for
2011.

Youth Production Contest
|
Rules of Eligibility
Eligibility is
confined to animals purchased in an Ontario
Invitational Sale and remaining the registered
property of the buyer until first record is
completed. Partnership ownership is excluded.
- Buyer and
owner must be a young person at least 10
years of age and 21 years of age and under,
as of sale date, residing in Canada.
- Animals
that are fresh or in calf at the time of
purchase must complete a lactation of 183 to
305 days in length by at least 1 month
before the sale date.
- Prizes:
Any animal below the current national BCA
average, in terms of composite BCA, does not
receive a prize regardless of standing.

There
will be no entry fee.

Any
calf, yearling or two year old,
designated as a Youth Production Contest
animal will be eligible for the contest.
Milking females must not have calved
before 30 days from sale date.

Competitors in the Youth Production
Contest must submit DHI certificates of
production to Jersey Ontario by at leas
1 month before the sale, following
completion of record.

Winners will be decided according to the
composite of fat and protein BCA and, in
the case of a tie, the animal with the
highest BCA for protein will be declared
the winner.

Note:
In the case of dispute, the decision of
Jersey Ontario will be final.
Cecil E.
Mortson Perpetual Trophy
This trophy,
awarded annually to the winner of the Youth
Production Contest, is presented in memory
of the late Cecil E. Mortson. "Cec", as he
was affectionately known, established the Mordale herd, originally located in York
County, Ontario. Cecil Mortson was a keen
competitor at the shows and an enthusiastic
promoter of the Jersey breed. He was
recognized by the Canadian Jersey Cattle
Club as the Master Breeder in 1972.
Cecil was
also a strong advocate of the Ontario
Invitational Sale and was one of the
founders of the Youth Production Contest.
Hence, the Cecil Mortson Perpetual Trophy,
which highlights a series of achievements by
youth, involving selection and promotion as
well as management and production.
