Jersey Ontario is offering a free, new service for anyone wishing to start milking Jerseys. The package is designed to assist dairy producers by finding them a minimum of five cattle, provide advice in feeding, breeding, management and provide two visits by Jersey Ontario’s Extension Manager in the first three months.

This service is being offered in response to an ever-increasing demand for Jersey cattle due to their high solids, efficient production, longevity and calving ease. This increased demand has shown the need new breeders have for sourcing, selection assistance, and general support.

Are You Eligible To Enroll?

• If you are currently milking less than five Jerseys and are willing to purchase a minimum of five more, you are eligible to take part in the program.

How Does It Work?

• Jersey Ontario makes a farm visit to assess your goals
• A guideline for the average price will be set out based on criteria outlined by the purchaser
• Extended pedigrees of animals selected sent to buyer for approval
• Follow-up provided by Extension Manager and/or Local Director

What Are The Benefits?

• The breeder receives the current year’s Jersey Canada membership and Jersey Breeder Magazine subscription
• Sellers guarantee cows to be physically and reproductively sound on the day of delivery (if discrepancies occur, Jersey Canada’s Terms & Conditions of Sale for Public Auction will prevail.)

• It helps to ensure that the new breeder starts with good quality Jersey cattle
